Fishing by Season:

April: The fishing season starts with hot action on speedy bonito. You can catch these tasty brutes, members of the tuna family, on light spinning and fly gear. Sight casting with small spoons or jigging near the bottom produces vicious strikes and then all you can do is hold on until the bonito stops its run...and they don't give up until they are in the net. Also during April you can catch good size blues and gray trout.

May: As bonito season winds down and the waters heat up the Spanish mackerel show up in good numbers. Trolling along the beach with light tackle and sight casting to schools of fish is sure to catch you a nice mess of fish. Also in later May, the flounder show up inshore, along with puppy drum.

June: One of the best months of the year, June is a prime mixed bag month. You can catch nice flounder and red drum inshore, using live bait and light tackle. Right off the beach, plenty of Spanish mackerel are waiting. A little further out, summer kings wait to test your angling skills. Usually we slow troll, waiting for the exciting sing of the reel as the fish pulls the line out.

July: Doormat flounder and large red drum inshore will keep you busy. More Spanish mackerel just off the beach and kings, mahi mahi, sailfish and more from 10 to 25 miles out.

August: Pretty much the same as July, inshore and near shore, plenty of fish.

September: The beginning of fall and fishing just gets better and better. Great flounder fishing, with red drum and trout plentiful inshore. While the mahi are headed for deeper water the kings are now bigger and closer to the beach. Spanish mackerel, the large size, can be caught slow trolling near the many Artificial Reefs in our area.

October: Often the best fishing month of the year! Best month for big flounder inshore. Plenty of red drum, speckled trout and gray trout to be had. The Spanish mackerel are leaving the area, but the false albacore and bonito make a nice appearance again. The king mackerel are bigger and just about everywhere.

November: This is speckled trout month inshore. Early in the month you can still catch nice flounder and red drum are around all month long. Near shore, you can catch albacore, bonito, and big kings.

December: Don't overlook this month. The crowds have gone home, but the fish are here and hungry. Plenty of trout, red drum and black drum, tripletail and sheepshead abound inshore. Near shore, again you can catch albacore, bonito and big kings.

January, February and March: Granted these are slower fishing months, but when we can catch some nice weather, this is the best time to catch some really nice seabass and other bottom fish. You can find these tasty fish just off the beach at one of the many Artificial Reefs. Tackle is light spinning or bait casting gear, with bottom rigs and squid for bait.
